PTSD & Trauma

PTSD isn't about being weak after a bad experience. It's the brain's response to trauma that keeps you stuck in survival mode, reliving the worst moments long after they've passed.

What it is

PTSD develops after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It's the brain's way of getting stuck in survival mode, re-experiencing the danger long after the threat has passed.

In Pakistan, trauma from accidents, violence, abuse, or natural disasters is common, but PTSD is rarely discussed or treated. Many suffer in silence, believing they should just "move on."

What it looks like in real life

"I keep having nightmares about the accident, even though it was years ago."
"I avoid driving because it brings everything back."
"I feel numb all the time, like I'm watching my life from outside."
Raaton ko neend mein wahi cheez aati hai jo hui thi.

PTSD involves flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance of reminders, emotional numbing, and being easily startled. It can develop weeks, months, or even years after the traumatic event.

What it is not

PTSD isn't a sign of weakness, and it's not something that will go away on its own if you just forget about what happened. The brain's trauma response is powerful, but it can be reprocessed with the right treatment.

What treatment involves

Trauma-focused therapies like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) are highly effective for PTSD. They help the brain process the trauma and reduce its emotional charge.

Medication can help with symptoms like nightmares and anxiety. The goal is not to forget the trauma, but to reduce its hold on your present life.

When to seek help now

If you're re-experiencing a traumatic event through flashbacks or nightmares, if you're avoiding places or activities, or if you feel emotionally numb and disconnected please reach out. PTSD is treatable, and you don't have to carry this alone.

The hardest step is the first one. Most of our patients tell us afterwards that they waited too long. You do not need a referral, a diagnosis, or the right words. You only need to call.
